Direct to the point. Only one thing that hinders one's execution of respect depending on how comfortable they were to use it - either master or lord.
Most of our Muslim brothers and sisters prefer to use "master" because most of them use the word "lord" as a form of worship. But they also understood that other brothers and sisters are preferable using "lord" as the respect of dignity, not as a form of worship.
The word "lord" is used in the medieval era during the kings and nobles in the history of mankind's monarchial dynasty to address someone in a nobility of a social class; while the word "master" was used in a certain system of disciplines like martial arts and other crafts that connotes expertise in something worthwhile.
Anyway, whatever it is, both terms are proper. It depends only on the intention of using it.
